Ideas File–Exterior Steps

As you can see, there is a sketch included with this "design tip." This tip is the beginning of a new category, called "Ideas File."
Now…What is an "ideas file?" It is a file that contains magazine photos, sketches, fabric swatches, etc. The items in this file are ideas that you’d like to use in the future.

The sketch, above, comes from my "idea file." This concept can be applied, in whole or part, to a number of places outside your home. For example, you could place bird houses, planters, and/or vertical house numbers: (1) at your front or rear entry, (see sketch), (2) on your deck, or, (3) on a fence. You can find terra cotta pots and house numbers, at your local hardware store or nursery. To determine the size of these items, consider the scale of your home, the dimensions of your steps, and the widths of your rails or posts. This idea can be applied year round. Simply change the plants to suit the weather or climate.

Create your idea files!
